One of the exciting new features in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is 8-Player Smash, but the idea itself isn’t new at all. In a recent discussion with Famitsu magazine, Smash director Masahiro Sakurai revealed that it was something he had originally tried to implement in Melee, but found it to be “more than impossible” from a technical standpoint. This time around, it was “achieved just barely.” It took a few generations, but Nintendo finally has a home console that can handle the hectic nature of 8-player battles.
