We’ve seen a lot of ambitious fan-made projects this year, and another one just became playable. A Castlevania fan who goes by “Dejawolfs” has spent a year’s worth of weekends working on a remake of the original Castlevania in Unreal Engine 4. The first level is now playable in a demo form (which you can download and try out by clicking here), and he’s moved on to working on level 2.
If you’re wondering how he intends to avoid a cease and desist from Konami…well, so am I. A Kickstarter has been launched for the purpose of licensing the game, but Dejawolf is admittedly not skilled in the business side of games development. The project is seeking $73,455 (only $173 has been raised at the time of this article’s publishing) to acquire a license and to speed up development, but there’s no clear explanation of how funds will be spent.
