Sonic the Hedgehog isn’t as popular as it was in the past. Most modern games from the series have been critically panned, leaving fans of the series wanting more from SEGA’s development team. Former SEGA of America CEO Tom Kalinske recently gave his thoughts on Sonic‘s decline in popularity, saying it’s only a natural part of a brand’s cycle for something like this to happen and that he believes it’s time for a comeback.

“I think there is some natural up and down for any character. We’ve certainly seen it with the Marvel characters over the years. We’ve seen it with Barbie. We’ve seen it with Star Wars. We’ve seen it with G.I. Joe and Hot Wheels. All of these brands have had their cycles. I think Sonic has had a downward cycle for a while, and it’s time to have an upward cycle again for a while.” — Tom Kalinske

What do you guys think? Is it time for Sonic games to make a comeback, or do you think they are doomed to repeat the same mistakes? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Our Verdict

Adam Sherrill
Writing is half of my life. Video games make up the other half. I decided to put these two hobbies together and join Gamnesia back in 2015. I spend most of my time working at a retail store and paying off my student debt. When I'm not getting stressed about the thousands of dollars I owe my loan providers, I play tons of video games (which just puts me into more debt). I'm also currently writing a novel in what little spare time I have. It's a story I've been wanting to write for a while, but I don't want to talk about it until I have most of it completed. Any Gamnesia-related inquiries may be sent to [email protected] Feel free to follow my personal Twitter if you want (@Pindlo). I mostly just retweet things.
