Pokémon GO has been receiving numerous updates since its launch in 2016. Since Pokémon from the second generation have been featured in the game for a while, fans are starting to speculate when we’ll see the next wave of creatures. A recent interview with Niantic’s John Hanke and some images from a datamine suggest that players may not have to wait any later than Halloween for the new update.

When Hanke was interviewed a few days ago about what features would be coming to Pokémon GO, he said that “the next secret weapon will be [the] launch of the next Pokémon generation.” Just a few days later, dataminers discovered the next loading screen for the game will feature silhouettes of Sableye, Duskull, Dusclops, Shuppet, and Banette. All of these creatures were first introduced in the third generation of Pokémon games.

During the interview, Hanke also talked about a new battle system that will be coming to Pokémon GO next year. He is likely alluding to the long awaited player-vs-player battles that fans have been waiting for since the game’s launch. Hopefully a future with trainer battles in Pokémon GO isn’t too far off.

Writing is half of my life. Video games make up the other half. I decided to put these two hobbies together and join Gamnesia back in 2015. I spend most of my time working at a retail store and paying off my student debt. When I'm not getting stressed about the thousands of dollars I owe my loan providers, I play tons of video games (which just puts me into more debt). I'm also currently writing a novel in what little spare time I have. It's a story I've been wanting to write for a while, but I don't want to talk about it until I have most of it completed. Any Gamnesia-related inquiries may be sent to [email protected] Feel free to follow my personal Twitter if you want (@Pindlo). I mostly just retweet things.
