According to a recent article by GamesRadar writer Anthony Agnello, he reportedly sent his Switch console to Nintendo to fix an error message that prevented its use, only to find that, when returned, its saved game data had been wiped. He is now warning other customers that if their console needs to be repaired, they may have to say goodbye to their save files.
The data was apparently wiped deliberately as part of the repair process. The console had “bricked” (meaning its software was completely inoperable by the user) and, as a result, needed a total system reset. Agnello had over 50 hours logged on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the console’s flagship game. Unfortunately, whatever error had occurred made the data unreadable, according to an email sent by Nintendo, so they were unable to restore the files afterwards.
