A longtime fan project finally came to fruition in August when Pokémon Uranium Version was released. However, Nintendo has been particularly vigilant in their efforts to protect their IP lately, shutting down numerous unauthorized fan projects in recent weeks. In anticipation of a DMCA takedown notice, the developers of Pokémon Uranium removed their download links but continued development on patches. However, the team has since announced that all development on the fan game has ceased.

In a message to fans posted on Twitter, the Uranium team discussed the impact that the game and its community of fans has had on their lives. The team didn’t explain exactly why they’re ceasing development, other than to say “There is a limit to how far projects like these can go.” You can read their full statement by clicking the image below.
