Damien Kieken, the director for Ubisoft’s upcoming hack-n-slash For Honor, recently announced that all DLC gamemodes and maps will be free. Kieken said that this was being done in an effort to keep the community together, rather than splitting the community up between each map-pack and DLC release. It is possible that Ubisoft may take the same approach from Rainbow Six: Siege, which also features free DLC but allows players to purchase new heroes using real money.
During a presentation by Kieken, he explained, ”
We don’t want to split the community, so everything that’s matchmade [including] new modes and new maps, will be given for free to the players. We’ll also have other free content. We are a big team supporting the game after launch.”
We know that
For Honor will have an in-game currency called Steel, which is earned after each match and can be used to purchase things in-game. This currency will be purchasable using real money, but Kieken stresses that everything in the game can be unlocked through gameplay, and while purchasing Steel is a shortcut, you still can’t skip the progression of the game.
