With the ongoing fiasco of Nintendo’s inability to keep up with the demand for Amiibo, many thought the company may right its wrongs with the upcoming release of the Amiibo cards. However, this does not seem to be the case according to this post in the Amiibo subreddit.

While we have not yet received any official notification, it is very possible that the release of the item “Animal Crossing amiibo Card Vol.2 5Pack Set” (GAME-0014484) may be discontinued due to the issues experienced with the production/release of Vol.1. Notices will be sent accordingly if the need arises.

On behalf of the maker, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused.

Best regards, AmiAmi

These Amiibo cards are said to function exactly like the currently available figurines, just being made of paper instead of plastic. This looked like a great alternative for collectors to get the Amiibo functionality of certain characters they wanted but couldn’t get for a reasonable price. This doesn’t seem to be the case anymore, as we’re now seeing a repeat of what originally happened.
