Have you ever wondered if video game baddies have a last name? Like, is Bowser’s last name Koopa like the Koopalings, or does he take after Mario with the repeating name of Bowser Bowser? Well for those wondering about the biggest baddie in all of Hyrule, wonder no longer! The North American game manual for The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is no longer the sole source for speculation regarding a potential surname for series antagonist Ganondorf. The official website for The Legend of Zelda series has now cited Dragmire as being Ganondorf’s last name too, and it has fans in a frenzy of speculation.

The official overview website Nintendo has curated for the Zelda series recently updated its character roster. The description for Ganondorf now states:

“Once known as the King of Thieves, Ganondorf Dragmire used the power of the Triforce to become the beast, Ganon.”

Pictured next to his updated description is his character art from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD. This would insinuate that Ganondorf (since he is one man kept mostly immortal) as he is seen in Ocarina of Time, The Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess has always been named Ganondorf Dragmire.

Fans have been quick to point out, however, that this is not necessarily canonical confirmation of the character’s full name. Because there is still no in-game lore or developers’ statements that confirm the validity of Ganondorf’s last name, the significance of this online tidbit is up in the air.

What do you think about Ganondorf having a last name? Would you like to see other characters have new details revealed about them or should old characters be left alone? Let us know in the comments below!

Hey all! I've been a gamer since I was three. I'm one of those people with gaming so ingrained in them that watching my father play Super Mario 64 is actually my first memory I can recall. I love writing too! I'm writing an original fantasy series that takes place in another universe; it may take some inspiration from some of my favorite franchises. I've been a journalist for a few years, have worked on local and national teams, and have garnered experience assigning stories, editing, writing, interviewing, hosting a television series, running a YouTube channel, and doing other stuff that's more fun to mention in conversation. Bios can drag on. Anyway, I'm super stoked to be a part of the Gamnesia team! Thanks for having me!
