The anticipated sequel to Batman: Arkham City is coming later this year, and fans of the Batman franchise couldn’t be more excited. During the Game Developers Conference last month, Rocksteady revealed that they and DC Comics have worked together to create a brand new character, an undertaking that they’ve said was “terrifying” and “exciting”. Not much is currently known about the Arkham Knight, but given his inferred methods of combat it doesn’t appear like he and Batman are going to be friendly. Unlike superhero, the Arkham Knight carries guns and is more lenient with murder than Batman is. Rocksteady producer Dax Ginn talked about the challenge of creating the Arkham Knight.

So when the idea was on the table for us to develop our own character and introduce that into Batman’s world, there was so much energy and excitement around it at Rocksteady — but we really were conscious of the value of the collaboration creatively we have with DC to make sure the gameplay role the Arkham Knight has is really reflected in his appearance and his outlook and his perspective. That’s not an opportunity that comes along very often, and I think we totally nailed it with this guy. – Dax Ginn

Rocksteady believes that the Arkham Knight could go beyond the game and eventually become involved in other story lines in the Batman universe. Is he a villain or a vigilante hero? Not much is yet known, but I’m definitely looking forward to finding out more about this character when the game is released. What do you think? Are you excited to see a new character in Gotham? Let us know what you think in the comments!

Our Verdict

Dan Rockwood
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, and though throughout my college career I was forced to write hard news stories about local issues and interview people like police officers and local politicians, I've always wanted to get into video game writing. Whenever I had an open assignment to do for a class I focused it on video games. The majority of the news I consume is about the gaming world, whether it's from G4, IGN, Gamnesia, Zelda Informer, or from my friends on facebook, nothing gets me more excited than the developments taking place everyday in the world of gaming. Now I don't only get to play the games, I get to write about them. And that is pretty awesome.
