Finally, Summer’s here, and it’s good to be chilling out. When summer rolls around, it’s time for most young gamers to get in the swing of playing, playing, and playing some more. But the problem is, there are so many good games in the world, there are sure to be a few that fall through the cracks and land on the oh-so-dreadful “backlog.”

We want to know: what’s on your summer backlog? So many good games have come out this year, and surely there are a few from years past that you’ve been meaning to get around to playing. Here you can see my personal Summer gaming backlog, and join the discussion with your own backlog in the comments below!

My Backlog

My life has gotten extremely busy as of late, but I always cross my fingers that I can squeeze in twenty minutes of game time here and there. I’m certain I won’t be able to complete every one of my summer gaming goals, but a man can hope! Here’s what’s on my to-do list:

Pokémon Gold Version: Pokémon Gold Version has had a special place in my heart since I discovered the series. I was backing up my Game Boy game saves a few weeks ago and it struck me: it’s finally time to catch ’em all. Trying to get all 649 Pokémon in one game is far too daunting a task, though, so I decided to keep it manageable and stick to my very first Pokémon game, Pokémon Gold Version.

Pokémon Conquest: Pokémon Conquest is by far one of the most unusual crossovers in the gaming world, but when it’s on sale for $14.99, now’s the time to give it a try.

Mother 3: The third and final installment in Nintendo’s Mother series, Mother 3 is often praised as one of the best games on the Game Boy Advance and many regard it as one of the best games ever made. After having caught up with Game of Thrones, I decided to make Mother 3 my new pastime on the bus to and from my summer job, and so far, it’s wonderful. I just hope two weeks is enough to finish it.

Bayonetta: I had never played the first Bayonetta before trying its Wii U exclusive sequel at E3 2013, and after having enjoyed that demo so much, I decided it was time to pick up the first Bayonetta. I got it for a healthy $9.99 back in June… and it’s been sitting on my desk ever since.

Tomb Raider: Having never played any of the original Tomb Raider games, the reboot certainly piques my interest. Despite the whole debacle about the production cost and the sales results, I’ve heard great things about the single-player adventure, and that’s what Tomb Raider is all about (or so I’ve heard).

The Last of Us: Nope. I haven’t played The Last of Us yet. Excuse me while I punch myself in the face.

What’s Your Backlog?

Colin McIsaac
I first played Donkey Kong Country before even turning three years old, and have since grown into an avid gamer and passionate Nintendo fan. I started working at Zelda Informer in August 2012, and helped found Gamnesia, which launched on February 1, 2013. Outside of the journalism game, I'm an invested musician who loves arranging music from video games and other media. If you care to follow my endeavors, you can check out my channel here: http://youtube.com/user/pokemoneinstein I was rummaging through some things a while back and found my first grade report card. My teacher said, "Oddly enough, Colin doesn't like to write unless it's about computers or computer-type games. In his journal he likes to write about what level he is on in 'Mario Land,' but he doesn't often write about much else." I was pretty amused, given where I am today. Also I have a dog, and he's a pretty cool guy. I don't care for elephants much. I suppose they're okay. You've read plenty now; carry on.
