For those who have been following the progress of the upcoming Super Smash Bros. titles for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, you should know that the two differentiate at least in character design style.
Super Smash Bros. director, Masahiro Sakurai, is known to be a very modest man as well as one who updates his Miiverse account often. He is also kind enough to treat followers with plenty of cool screenshots and even some juicy bits of information.
Today’s update let us know of a cool customization option which Nintendo 3DS users should look forward to having. In the 3DS screenshots we’ve seen so far, the characters have always had such refined and evident outlines. If these outlines irritate you or upset you in any way, fret not!
“I guess we haven’t shown the Villager or the Wii Fit Trainer on the 3DS until now. By the way, their outlines can be made thinner or made to disappear completely.” — Masahiro Sakurai
There you have it, folks! While the design style between the 3DS and Wii U versions differ, you will be able to customize them to some extent. Those outlines might be annoying to some but I thought they added a kind of depth to the characters and might make the 3-dimensional gameplay really pop out. Then again, playing a heated match of Super Smash Bros. in 3D might be a mistake considering I already have poor eyesight.
