Earlier this week, NetherRealm Studios held a live stream event for their upcoming fighter, Mortal Kombat X. Quite a bit of new and shocking information came out of the stream, such as concept art and secondary skins for Reptile and Kitana. Spiro Anagnostakos, the production manager of the game also stated that the team is working towards making more realistically proportioned women in the upcoming game.
The team took the opportunity of a new Mortal Kombat game to change and redesign some previously known characters. Kitana was given more of a warrior and ninja spirit to her costume that would speak to her fighting skills.
Past incarnations have tended to favor the royal qualities of the character over the warrior aspects, so we decided to reverse that for her costume. She has a stealthier, more ninja inspired design with blue as an accent color against the black parts of her costume. —NeatherRealm Tumblr
The creators also wanted to give an image of Reptile’s more primal side in Mortal Kombat X.
We looked forward to designing Reptile. With all the possible reptilian elements the character could possess, it gave us a huge amount of ideas to explore. We began pursuing a more primal-influenced look, featuring bones as a main element of the look. His vicious nature makes this pairing feel right. . —NeatherRealm Tumblr
In a rather shocking bit of news, the team announced that longtime fighter Jade will not be returning in Mortal Kombat X. She will still be there in spirit though, as many of her moves will be incorporated into Kitana’s moveset.
A new stage named Crossroads was also shown off, which will have fighters pitted against each other in a fiery pit.
Reptile’s fatality was also shown off in a best of three fight between Reptile and Kitana. Reptile spits acid at his opponent, burning them as he then crushes their head.
Anagnostakos also hinted at the possibility of another live stream at the end of the event.
Mortal Kombat X will release on April 14th for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC
