Following the VGX, most people were, to say the least, disappointed at Nintendo’s reveal. For those that missed it, Nintendo used their time to reveal Cranky Kong as the fourth playable character in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. A lot of people went into the VGX expecting this to be the announcement, but nonetheless, it brought plenty of criticism against Nintendo.
However, last night after the awards had concluded, the gaming world took to the internet. The result? Cranky Kong was the only announcement from the VGX that was trending on Twitter. This certainly says something about interest in the game. Even though there were plenty that were displeased at Nintendo for using their airtime on Tropical Freeze, there’s clearly others who were rather happy to hear of not only Cranky Kong, but the cooperative multiplayer the game will feature.
Some may bring up that trending on Twitter doesn’t equal sales – and you’re right. But it does stir up interest in the game. And if there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s that Nintendo is very good at stirring things up.
So, now that all the post-VGX rage (or satisfaction, whichever you felt) has subsided, what do you think about Nintendo’s choice to reveal Cranky Kong? Was it the right one, or could they have made a better choice? Sound off in the comments!
