Dark Souls is maybe a little tough, so last month, when a fan streamed himself on a playthrough of the game during which he took zero hits, everybody was understandably impressed. But guess who doesn’t buy it: Hidetaka Miyazaki, the director of Dark Souls.

He was being interviewed by Wired, when a question concerning the special and creative challenges fans undertake in Dark Souls playthroughs came up. Miyazaki says he did anticipate a certain level of creativity and that the game did make room for it, but that he didn’t expect the scale of speedruns or many of the “strange new ways to play the games.” Then, he mentioned that no-hit run we were just talking about: “I don’t believe the player who says he completed the original Dark Souls without taking a hit — it would be amazing but I think it’s just an elaborate rumour!
