After months of rumors and reports, we finally got confirmation earlier this month that a new Devil May Cry game is on the way. Capcom gave us our first look at Devil May Cry 5 during Microsoft’s E3 2018 press conference, and the reveal trailer announced a Spring 2019 release window. Since then, popular Japanese publication Famitsu has revealed more details about the game’s progression, plot, and mechanics.
If you’re worried about yet another AAA game being delayed, it sounds like that’s not a huge concern for Devil May Cry 5. Famitsu revealed that development is approximately 75% complete on the game, so next Spring seems to be a realistic target. Famitsu also confirmed that the game is running on Capcom’s fancy new RE Engine, which powered Resident Evil VII.
As for the story, we’ll be facing off against the strongest villain in the history of the franchise. An enormous, demonic tree is spreading its roots throughout Red Grave City, and it’s intent on consuming human blood. Nero must put a stop to this, armed with Red Queen, Blue Rose, and his new Devil Breaker arm, which replaces the Devil Bringer arm. Oh, and he’s working for Dante these days.
Capcom is planning to reveal additional details for the game over the course of the Summer, so you can expect some updates soon!
