Disney Infinity 3.0, the upcoming Star Wars installment in the Disney Infinity franchise, has been explored in detail recently by Game Informer. The new game includes many Star Wars characters and locations, with three different studios developing specific parts of the overall package.
Avalanche Software, a subsidiary of Disney Interactive Studios, is heading up the development of the game, along with Ninja Theory and Studio Gobo. Ninja Theory’s pack-in playset, Twilight of the Republic, takes place after the events of Star Wars: Episode II, focusing on Anakin and Ahsoka as they try to uncover the person behind the creation of a new droid army. This playset will be very combat-heavy, featuring both land and space battles. Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Darth Maul will also be available as separate figures.
Studio Gobo’s playset, Rise Against the Empire, follows the events of the original movie trilogy (Episodes IV – VI). Luke Skywalker and Leia face off against Darth Vader and his forces in several sequences, including battles on Yavin, Hoth, and Tatooine. Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Darth Vader will be available as separate figures. It is worth noting that the characters from both playsets can be used across all sequences, not just the ones they originally appeared in.
The original Disney Infinity formula isn’t remaining unchanged, however. The three studios are re-examining fundamental parts of the core game to make sure it is as good as possible. Melee combat has been retuned with better timing and depth, while driving gameplay for vehicles now has smoother handling and drifting. Legacy characters are also affected by the new tweaks.
Another Star Wars playset will be released this winter, this time based on the upcoming seventh installment in the franchise, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Sets based on Pixar’s Inside Out and Marvel characters such as those from Avengers: Age of Ultron are also planned. New figures for Disney Infinity 3.0 include Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Sam Flynn and Quorra from Tron: Legacy, Mulan, Olaf, and more. The Toy Box will also have an updated hub world, new toys, and a new farming system.
Disney Infinity 3.0 will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Wii U, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, iOS, and Android in Autumn 2015, with the Starter Pack retailing at $64.99. New Power Discs will also be released in bags that allow you to see exactly which one is inside.
