Disney is one of the best at making money in the realms of TV and film, but Disney’s video game division has suffered massive financial losses in recent years. As a result, Disney massively scaled back, laying off hundreds of employees and refocusing their efforts almost exclusively on Disney Infinity and mobile games.
While Disney has praised the sales of
Infinity, it appears the toys-to-life game has not performed well enough to return Disney Interactive to profitability. Disney announced today that they are ending Disney Infinity after the release of the upcoming Alice Through The Looking Glass and Finding Dory packs. In fact, with Infinity cancelled, they are discontinuing their “self-published console games business.” They will also be closing down Avalanche Software, the developer of Disney Infinity, laying off around 300 people.
