Update: Our own Colin McIsaac got in touch with Capcom to ask about a boxed Wii U version and received a response of, “We are asking [Nintendo] to swap out that art work, as there is no Wii U box version available at this time”. So, it’s not entirely impossible for it to happen, but it was a mistake for Nintendo to post it.

Original story: DuckTales Remastered drops on the PlayStation Network, Wii U eShop, and Steam next Tuesday (the Steam version is already available for pre-purchase), with the Xbox 360 version slated for September 11th. On top of that, a special boxed edition for the PlayStation 3 comes out on August 20th. The box just contains a download code and a special collector’s pin, but for just an extra few dollars, it’s sure to please the collector inside all of us.

Oddly enough, a rumor states that other platforms may get the special box treatment, starting with the Wii U. An image of the box art is up on Nintendo’s product page for the game, when that image should be like all other digital titles on Nintendo’s site — the title screen and some text saying it’s an eShop title. It could just be an error or an oversight, but there’s also the chance that it’s real and the Wii U is getting a boxed version.

If this turns out to be real, are you interested in getting the boxed version on Wii U, or is that extra five dollars for shelf clutter just not your thing? Let me know in the comments!

Claire is a retro gamer who likes to laugh at the industry and post articles with silly pictures. She currently spends most of her time sharing memes on her lunch breaks at work. One day she hopes to have the best Super Nintendo collection, but until then, she will just have to sit here and write articles for a gaming website, as well as writing a profile description in the third person. But that's about to change, however, as suddenly... I start writing in the first person! Le gaspe, what a twist! I write the occasional game editorial and review, as well as short stories.
