EA Studios Executive Vice President Patrick Söderlund was recently pressed by industry analyst Michael Pachter regarding the quality of Electronic Arts games. Regarding the widespread criticism Star Wars Battlefront received due largely to its lack of a single player campaign, Söderlund said, “It was a conscious decision that we made due to time, and being able to launch the game side by side with the movie that came out to get the strongest possible impact.”

Many fans were reasonably outraged by this admission that EA prioritized sales opportunity over product quality in order for the game piggyback off of the hype for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. While Söderlund also stated that EA plans to improve the series’ review scores in the future—hopefully meaning a substantial single player component will appear in the next Battlefront game—it may be too late to regain many fans’ trust.
