Final Fantasy XV is an upcoming action-adventure installment of the Final Fantasy franchise. Being developed for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, Square Enix intends on making this title unique compared to others of its kind.
In an interview with Famitsu, director Hajime Tabata discussed how players can harness stronger abilities by having party members unite in-battle. Tabata also verified that summons, a recurring mechanic in many Final Fantasy titles, will be making a return.
While the mechanic is still being worked out, it has been detailed that party members can combine forces in order to deal more damage than they would be able to alone. According to Tabata, players must carefully time their button presses to pull off combined attacks.
Regarding another mechanic of the upcoming RPG, a character’s MP no longer corresponds to magic. Rather, MP is now used for a character’s special moves. MP is also used for evading oncoming attacks and opposition.
Not much more than a simple confirmation was given addressing the topic of summons. Final Fantasy XV‘s main protagonist, Noctis, will be able to use summons, and it has not been stated whether or not any other character would be able to.
Final Fantasy XV is supposed to have an open-world environment and a battling system similar to that of the Kingdom Hearts series.
