The NPD Group published their gaming sales report for the month of June recently, and it was full of surprising information. Mario Tennis Aces and the NES Classic topped the software and hardware charts respectively, with Santa Monica Studio’s God of War taking second in the software charts. The game is still selling surprisingly well for a game that released over three months ago, with Sony claiming earlier this year that the title was the fastest-selling PlayStation 4 exclusive to date.

However, according to the NPD’s latest report, Sony’s seemingly boastful statement was actually quite modest. The report states that God of War is not only the fastest selling PS4 exclusive, it is actually the fastest-selling PlayStation exclusive in general since the group started tracking in 1995! The game dethroned the PlayStation 3’s The Last of Us.

According to NPD’s Mat Piscatella, the story of Kratos and his son won’t be losing steam anytime soon. Speaking with IGN, he stated that he currently believes that God of War will finish as the eighth best-selling game in the US in 2018, possibly higher if there are many more strong performances like June’s.

What do you guys think? Are you glad that God of War is garnering such outstanding sales numbers? Let us know in the comments!

Greetings Gamnesiacs! I'm Elijah Holt, a Associate Editor coming at you live from beautiful Alabama. My love for gaming started at an early age and has ingrained a love for two different gaming companies in my mind. On one side, my love of the Nintendo 64 and my countless hours spent perfecting the first few levels of Super Mario 64 (I was never good enough to get past those...maybe if they release it for the Wii U eShop someday...) resulted in my love for everything Nintendo; meanwhile, I also owned an original PlayStation, which has resulted in me currently owning a PS3 and PS4 for a few Sony exclusives and third-party titles.
