Last week, Bungie announced their plans to end Destiny support for “legacy consoles,” or the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game, starting when the game’s new Rise of Iron expansion releases. However, even if it may seem like it, Bungie does not plan to leave the reportedly small number of players in the dust. A new support page was published on Bungie’s website that details when and how players can import their characters to modern generation consoles, and what specific features will be removed from the Legacy Console versions as well as what features will still be available.

Players interested in importing their characters will be able to do so in August. According to the
support page, when players first log into Destiny: The Taken King on a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One console, they will be prompted to import their Legacy characters. While the import page does promise that most of your gear, currency, and what have you will be transferred, it does warn that items received from codes may not make it over. It is also important to note that after August, character progression on modern and legacy consoles will become entirely separate. If you find some epic gear while playing the PlayStation 3 version, it will not be present on the PlayStation 4 version and vice versa.

Most content will still be available to Legacy players as well. You can find a full list on the specific support page
here, however the gist of it is that Trials of Osiris and Iron Banner Crucible events, Live Events, Silver purchasing, and all further expansions or updates will no longer be available on Legacy Consoles. Those worried about Eververse items bought with silver need not worry. They are included in the character import detailed above.

All in all, it sounds as though the Legacy versions of
Destiny will still be viable ways to play the games if any fans were worried. Though, it also seems like upgrading and importing to the newer consoles may be the absolute best way to go.

If you are a Legacy player, will you be importing your character? How do you feel about Bungie’s plan for transitioning to modern generation consoles? Let us know in the comments below!
