Hyrule Warriors on Switch Outshines Wii U in Comparison Footage

0

After exceeding expectations on Wii U and 3DS, Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition just made its Nintendo Switch debut in Japan. The rest of the world has to wait another two months for the Switch version, but you don’t have to wait to get a good look at it. Thanks to a pair of comparison videos from GameXplain and Nintendo Wire, we’ve got plenty of side-by-side footage of the game on Wii U and Switch.

GameXplain’s video first shows off the fact that loading times have been improved by around four seconds on Switch. Next, it highlights a pretty key change in the game’s first scenario, The Armies of Ruin. Much like the 3DS version, the Switch version went with sunny skies where the original used clouds. Draw distances are also notably improved, and the total number of enemies that can appear on screen appears to be much higher on Switch.

What GameXplain’s video doesn’t show off is the game’s improved frame rate. The Switch version of Hyrule Warriors runs at 60 frames per second, whereas the Wii U version ran at 30 and suffered occasional dips. This is demonstrated in Nintendo Wire’s video. Because they encoded it at 60 frames per second, the superior smoothness of the Switch version is evident when compared to the choppier Wii U footage.
