Earlier today we reported that IGN removed their review of Dead Cells after accusations of plagiarism were made against writer Filip Miucin. The review in question featured numerous lines that were nearly identical to another review published weeks earlier by Boomstick Gaming. IGN has conducted an investigation into the incident, and they have decided to part ways with the Miucin.
IGN has issued a statement acknowledging that the “substantial similarities” between the two reviews were not acceptable and that Miucin stepped over a line. In addition to parting ways with Miucin, IGN will be picking another staff member to give the game a fair review later this week. They conclude the statement by saying, “Nothing is more important to us than your trust.”
Miucin’s departure will leave a vacant Nintendo Editor seat at IGN. Hopefully, the next person to fill it holds themselves to a higher standard.
