Today on the Official PlayStation Blog, Sony announced that the Jak and Daxter series is coming to the PlayStation 4 as PS2 Classics later this year. The beloved series has been remastered in the past for the PlayStation 3 as part of the Jak and Daxter Collection, but this time they will be releasing as standalone titles on the PlayStation Store.
Originally developed by Naughty Dog, the titles being re-released are Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, Jak II, Jak 3, and Jak X: Combat Racing. While the main trilogy has been remastered before, this is the first time the dune-buggy racing title Jak X: Combat Racing is seeing a re-release in HD, as it was not included in the series’ PS3 remaster. Sony did not mention the 2009 PlayStation 2 and PSP title Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier as being included in this re-release, however, so that one may still be getting left in the past.
According to the announcement, the titles have been up-scaled to 1080p, along with having added Trophy and PS4 Share Play support. While Jak X: Combat Racing did have support for online play in the original PS2 version, Sony confirmed that the re-released version will not support it.
The titles are slated to be released digitally on the PlayStation Store later this year. Until then, you can check out the quick announcement trailer above!
