At E3 2016, Square Enix debuted a new demo for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue. Director of the game, Tetsuya Nomura, was recently interviewed by Dengeki about the game, where he provided more details about the collection of titles.
Nomura started by talking about Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep 0.2: A Fragmentary Passage, where he clarified how long the game actually is. He compared the length of the game to that of a regular-sized world in Kingdom Hearts III, which he promised is a decent size. The game will also feature a battle system that is similar to Kingdom Hearts III, but will have elements from Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. The sequence in which the player casts magic will also be important, as spells will work with each other to make more powerful combos. The spell “Thunder” was one in particular that Nomura said the team focused a lot on for the game.
Nomura then shifted focus to talk about Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance HD. He confirmed that the new PS4 version of the game runs at 60 frames per second, something that the original 3DS version was not able to achieve as well as something that was not a focus in other Kingdom Hearts HD remasters. A new dream eater is also introduced in the new demo called Catnuki, which is a mix of a cat and a raccoon dog, which are often referred to as “tanuki.”
Nomura closed the interview by saying that while he would love to provide more information on Kingdom Hearts III, he would like to focus on giving new details on Kingdom Hearts 2.8 for now. He asked fans to please look forward to more information about Kingdom Hearts III coming this Winter.
