Rumors have spawned about Hideo Kojima leaving Konami. Suspicion rose when a news announcement from two weeks ago titled “Announcement of Executive Appointments” was brought to attention, as it no longer listed Kojima as an executive for Konami. This morning, the most interesting and convincing evidence came from Reddit, where it was addressed that Kojima Productions’ logos and Hideo Kojima’s name disappeared from the artwork for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes, and that Kojima Productions’ site now redirects to Konami’s Metal Gear Solid site. Konami released a statement to calm fans: “Konami Digital Entertainment, including Mr. Kojima, will continue to develop and support Metal Gear products. Please look forward to future announcements.”
Konami released another statement assuring Kojima is still a part of the company, but they have yet to address the removal of his name and logos from the artwork:
“As we have already announced, we are shifting our production structure to a headquarters-controlled system, in order to establish a steadfast operating base capable of responding to the rapid market changes that surround our digital entertainment business. Konami Digital Entertainment (including Mr. Kojima), will continue to develop and support Metal Gear products. Please look forward to future announcements.”
