One of the biggest questions we had at the launch of Pokémon GO last year was concerning the lack of legendary Pokémon such as Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres. Today, it was revealed exactly why Niantic waited to release these beasts into the wild. With boss raids being only a recent inclusion in the game, there is finally a way for regular Pokémon to size up against legendary Pokémon, and their powers cannot be underestimated.
A recent announcement by Niantic outlines how you’ll be able to catch a legendary Pokémon. Keep an eye out for legendary eggs at gyms and wait for them to hatch. Once the legendary Pokémon hatches from the egg, a raid will occur. Once the legendary is defeated, all trainers involved will have an opportunity to catch it. Once you catch a legendary Pokémon, you can use it to battle at raids and gyms and be at your side as a partner, but they will not be able to stay at a gym, due to their apparently strong loyalty to the player.
The announcement also outlined how legendary Pokémon will be at Pokémon GO Fest at Grant Park in Chicago on Saturday, July 22nd. Trainers will be tested with challenge windows, and should all of them be completed, the first legendary Pokémon will be unleashed at the park.
