As we’ve known for a while, the Super Smash Bros. creator and gaming legend, Masahiro Sakurai, has been having shoulder trouble. This was once again highlighted in his recent post to his semi-weekly column in Weekly Famitsu. In his recent post, he says “I still have trouble with my shoulder and the symptoms of tenosynovitis still remain, so I’m forced to use a special mouse that clicks by inclining for work.” He continues, “If I was to button mash, my arm would give out in 10 minutes.” It’s also mentioned how he has to use a modified PlayStation 3 turbo controller to play PlayStation 4 games.

Despite his shoulder issues, he still progressed through the development of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. Masahiro Sakurai has had a very trying developer career, having pushed himself to the brink while developing Super Smash Bros. Melee for the GameCube, saying, “I was living a really destructive lifestyle — I’d work for over 40 hours in a row, then go back home to sleep for four.” One thing everybody can agree on is, more than any game, we really want Sakurai to get better!
