With 2015 nearly wrapped up, review aggregate website Metacritic has released their list of the top-rated games for the year based on reviews from over 80 different publications. At the top of the list is Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain from Hideo Kojima and Konami. Metal Gear Solid V had a lengthy development cycle and an elaborate marketing campaign, and it launched to mostly glowing reviews and impressive sales numbers. With an average review score of 95, it’s Metacritic’s top game of 2015.
It was an underwhelming year by Metacritic’s standards, as only three new console games were able to achieve a “great” average review score of 90 or higher. Aside from
Metal Gear Solid V, only Bloodborne and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt achieved this.
