Metroid is Nintendo’s science fiction action-adventure franchise that follows the adventures of intergalactic bounty hunter, Samus Aran. The series combines the platforming mechanics of Super Mario games with the openness of The Legend of Zelda games, meshing them into well-crafted masterpieces. Okay, “masterpieces” might be a bit much, but you get the point.
For those of you who already know about the Metroid games, the title of this article should at least intrigue you. For those of you who do not know about Metroid, you might not be so interested. Want to know what’ll get you interested? If you know Samus from the Super Smash Bros. series, you should realize that she is the protagonist of the Metroid games. Mind blown? Figured.
Metroid: Enemies Within is a live-action fan film being made under the minds of teams Massive State and Moxie Lady Productions. The goal of this project itself is to give Metroid “the Hollywood treatment.” The project is asking for $90,000 which will go into important factors including set construction, stage rental, costume fabrication, and standard production costs. It has been stated that this fan film is a non-profit project.
The fan film is looking at a 10-minute runtime and will star Rebecca Marshall (Saw 3D: The Final Chapter, That’s My Boy) as Samus Aran. Metroid: Enemies Within‘s Kickstarter page talks more about the fan film; here is a given brief synopsis:
“Samus Aran, a bounty hunter for the Galactic Federation, wakes up on an unknown ship after being rendered unconscious in a battle with a powerful being named the Gorea. She discovers she is being held hostage on the ship of a rival bounty hunter named Sylux, and learns of his plot to destroy the Federation while implicating her in the process. Samus fights to escape in order to save herself and the Federation before it’s too late.”
Donors can pledge as little as $1, and receive the teams’ sincere thanks and gratitude, or as much as $10,000 and receive a vast amount of rewards like passes to the Cast & Crew Party and maybe even Samus Aran’s helmet and costume! Metroid: Enemies Within launched on Kickstarter August 9th and will accept funding until September 8th. The project has already raised a little over $3,000 and even if you cannot donate, simply sharing the project can help as well!
