Microsoft is Creating a VR Headset For $299

Microsoft recently held an event where they announced several new devices and software, including a line of VR headsets starting at $299. Microsoft will be partnering with companies like HP, Dell, Lenovo, Asus, and Acer to create these devices. These new headsets will support “inside out six degrees of freedom sensors,” which will reportedly eliminate the need for cameras or laser tracking systems. They also happen to pair well with the upcoming Windows 10 Creators Update, which will include a 3D version of Paint along with other additions to the OS to make it more VR friendly.

These headsets clearly aim to dominate the mid-range VR market, considering that the two other VR headsets for PC start at $600 while the PSVR costs $400. Many people consider the price threshold the main problem with VR, and who knows if Microsoft will be able to change that?
