In 2014, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment released Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor to critical acclaim. Shadow of Mordor was the most successful Lord of the Rings-based game to date and was praised for the gameplay and extensive use of lore. Today, Warner Bros. officially announced a sequel to Shadow of Mordor, and it’s coming out this year. Middle-earth: Shadow of War takes place between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings and will continue the story of the first game. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment President David Haddad expressed his excitement for Shadow of War in a statement.
“Monolith Productions continues to innovate by introducing deeper, more personalised gameplay experiences, coupled with authentic storytelling. Middle-earth: Shadow of War truly drives the genre forward by taking the Nemesis System to new heights and allowing players to create their own personal journey within Middle-earth.” — David Haddad
Middle-earth: Shadow of War is scheduled to launch on August 22, 2017 in North America and August 25 in Europe for Xbox One, Project Scorpio, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro, and PC.
