Nintendo was resistant to the idea of entering the mobile market for years, but yesterday they put an end to that hesitation by launching Miitomo in Japan. The Mii-based app is all about connecting with friends, and early on it’s gathering a lot of interest. According to a report from Bloomberg, Miitomo was the most-downloaded iOS social networking app of the day at launch.
Soon after launch, it shot up to number one overall in the “free games” category on the Japanese app store. Whether or not that popularity holds remains to be seen, but Nintendo is committed to supporting and evolving
Miitomo for the foreseeable future in order to keep attracting new players while keeping the old ones hooked.
