Shigeru Miyamoto has recently appeared on a number of popular YouTube shows to hang out and discuss upcoming Nintendo titles. Most recently, he appeared on Button Bash with Smosh Games, where he played Mario Kart 8 with the crew. While there, Miyamoto was questioned about the possibility of a new F-Zero game. Though nothing was confirmed, Miyamoto did state that there was a possibility that the franchise still has a future. Whether or not it does, however, depends on if Nintendo develops a suitable controller interface or not.

When asked about a new
F-Zero title, Miyamoto responded:

“I actually made F-Zero first, and then after we made F-Zero, we made Mario Kart. But, we see a lot of other designers who are kinda making more traditional racing-style games, so we’ve tried to focus on something that feels a bit more ‘gamey’. So maybe if we create a new type of controller interface, and we find that controller interface is particularly suited for F-Zero, then maybe we’ll do something again with it.” — Shigeru Miyamoto

I would certainly love to see a new
F-Zero game. Would you? You can check out Smosh’s full interview with Shigeru Miyamoto below!
