Over a year ago, Nintendo first teased that they were working on new video game hardware, code named NX. Nintendo has been incredibly tight-lipped about the upcoming console since the initial teaser, revealing few details (aside from a launch window of March 2017) and refusing to comment on various rumors and reports in the industry.
With just nine months to go until the console’s launch target, many are wondering when Nintendo will finally unveil NX to the public, and some are even speculating that it could be delayed. Speaking with the Associated Press, longtime Nintendo executive Shigeru Miyamoto explained that the reason Nintendo has been so secretive is that they’re working on “an idea” instead of just advancements in technology.
“In terms of NX, there’s an idea that we’re working on. That’s why we can’t share anything at this point, and I don’t want to comment on the other companies. If it was just a matter of following advancements in technology, things would be coming out a lot quicker.”

The late Satoru Iwata, beloved President of Nintendo, expressed similar sentiments last year, telling a shareholder that Nintendo couldn’t share NX details because they were
concerned about competitors taking their ideas. Nintendo executives have also repeatedly expressed that NX is a brand new concept. Whatever NX is, Nintendo seems pretty confident that it’s going to surprise the industry. Hopefully the big reveal isn’t too much further away.
