Nearly two and a half years after Wii U launched, Nintendo is finally bringing Nintendo 64 and DS games to the Virtual Console – an addition that many fans have been requesting for ages. However, Nintendo has said many times that releasing games on Virtual Console takes more time and effort than most fans imagine, and it looks like the addition of these systems to the service could come at a cost. According to Natsume’s (the studio behind Harvest Moon and other games) community manager, CeeCee, Nintendo has shifted their focus away from Super Nintendo games.

“At this point, it’s unlikely we’ll see any other Natsume SNES games coming to the Virtual Console, as Nintendo’s interest has moved onto other classic systems.”
— CeeCee

CeeCee posted this as part of a Q&A on her Tumblr blog. Of course, it’s entirely possible that Nintendo’s shift away from Super Nintendo games on Virtual Console won’t extend to all developers, but it appears that at least some developers have been informed of a change in focus by Nintendo.
