Though a new Jak and Daxter was a possibility last year, and there were massive rumors of a new Crash Bandicoot ages ago, it looks like we won’t be getting either from Naughty Dog any time soon.

In a recent interview with Game Informer, Naughty Dog veteran Josh Sherr had a pretty disappointing answer to whether or not we’d see them return to either of their classic series.

This fits in well with what was said about the team’s strengths last year by Community Manager Arne Meyer, but it’s all the more sad to hear once again.

When asked if the team misses the cartoonish styling of their Crash and Jak era, Josh had to say this on the matter:

“No, I don’t, because we’ve got an amazing team of people making some really expressive performances with our current stable of realistic characters. I mean, animating the stylised stuff is a lot of fun, but the stories that we’re trying to tell right now are a little bit more grounded and a little bit more grown up than they were back in the Jak and Daxter days.” — Josh Sherr

And when he was asked if this is because of the members of Naughty Dog simply getting older, Josh said this:

“I think that’s part of it. I think that it’s also dictated by what the market wants, too. You know, that was a lot of what our decision was bounded by and based on when moving from Jak and Daxter to something more like Uncharted. And it’s also what we’re interested in, too.”
— Josh Sherr

It looks as though the days of Naughty Dog’s vivid and wacky adventures with Jak and Daxter and Crash Bandicoot are dead and gone, and the deeper, more serious tones in Uncharted and The Last of Us are here to stay.

What do you think of Naughty Dog’s decision to remain mature? How do you think this affects their image? Let us know your opinion in the comments!
