Linkle was first revealed in last month’s Nintendo Direct as a new playable character to Hyrule Warriors Legends, and ever since fans have been speculating what kind of relationship she would have to The Legend of Zelda‘s main protagonist Link. She was initially intended to be Link’s little sister, but series producer Eiji Aonuma stepped in to change her backstory. The new backstory was recently shown off in this new Japanese cutscene for Hyrule Warriors Legends, which reveals what is presumably the first time we will see her, as we see Linkle waking up from her sleep. The original video is in Japanese, but luckily the folks at GameXplain and Reddit were able to translate the footage and tell us the full backstory of Linkle in English.
Linkle truly believes that she is the reincarnation of the hero, based on the stories that her grandmother has told her, and this could be the reason why she wears the green clothes and carries a compass. While there isn’t too much footage, it gives players a good idea of who Linkle is and what her motivations will be. It still isn’t known if she really has any connection to the hero of time, but hopefully fans will be able to find out in Hyrule Warriors Legends.
