Way back in 2015, Nintendo announced plans to partner with Universal Studios to create a Nintendo theme park. The project was later officially unveiled as Super Nintendo World, and Universal is aiming to have it up and running in time for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Construction kicked off last June, and today we have a gallery of photographs showing off the construction process.
In addition to the Super Nintendo World location in Japan, Nintendo and Universal intend to open Nintendo theme parks in Orlando and Hollywood. Concept art for the theme parks included ride ideas based on games like Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country, The Legend of Zelda, and Kirby. Nintendo has also indicated that you’ll be able to interact with some of the attractions by using your Nintendo Switch.
Construction is still clearly in the early stages, but it’s clear that progress is being made. If they stick to their original timeline, we can expect the first Super Nintendo World location to be open to the public in about two years.
