Nintendo America President Reggie Fils-Aime Retiring, Replaced by Doug Bowser

0

Reggie Fils-Aime has been a major part of Nintendo’s success for the past 15 years, 13 of which he spent as the President of Nintendo of America. However, all good things must come to an end, and that includes Reggie’s tenure. Nintendo announced today that Fils-Aime will step down as President and COO on April 15th, two weeks after the start of the new fiscal year.

Reggie was a largely popular face of Nintendo in the West, propelled to fame and meme status by his E3 2004 appearance. There, he introduced himself and said, “I’m about kicking ass, I’m about taking names, and we’re about making games.” Along with fans, Nintendo valued him highly as well, and Nintendo CEO and President Shuntaro Furukawa had this to say:

“I really appreciate everything Reggie has done for Nintendo. Inside and outside our company, Reggie is known as an exceptional leader. We are grateful that he is leaving the business in good shape with strong momentum. While we will miss him and we wish him the very best in his retirement, we are also pleased to have such an able successor ready to step into that role. Doug Bowser and the rest of the team will ensure a seamless transition and continued momentum for Nintendo.”

Reggie expressed his love and gratitude to Nintendo and their fans and indicated that he was looking forward to spending his retirement with loved ones.

“Nintendo owns a part of my heart forever. It’s a part that is filled with gratitude – for the incredibly talented people I’ve worked with, for the opportunity to represent such a wonderful brand, and most of all, to feel like a member of the world’s most positive and enduring gamer community. As I look forward to departing in both good health and good humor, this is not ‘game over’ for me, but instead ‘leveling up’ to more time with my wife, family and friends.”

Reggie will be succeeded by the amusingly named Doug Bowser. Far from being a Koopa King, Bowser was brought on as Vice President of Sales back in 2015 and later promoted to Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
