Nintendo has announced the tragic news today that CEO Satoru Iwata has passed away at the age of 55. Iwata had surgery on a bile duct growth last year, causing him to miss E3. The surgery was said to be successful, and Iwata recovered in a few month’s time. Unfortunately, it appears that this health problem returned, as Nintendo has issued the following short statement: “Nintendo Co., Ltd. deeply regrets to announce that President Satoru Iwata passed away on July 11, 2015 due to a bile duct growth.”

We have no other information at this time, but our hearts go out to Iwata’s friends, family, and co-workers. We will update you if and when Nintendo issues further statements.
