The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD was first officially announced, a similar fan-effort was discovered that looked a lot more impressive than Nintendo’s efforts. An interview with project lead Tomoya Hamasaki revealed the team’s intention to not only give the game a graphical upgrade to HD, but to improve the textures and even add new content to the title. Unfortunately, if you wanted to follow that link to his YouTube channel in hopes of getting another glimpse at the gorgeous teaser footage provided in the past, you’re going to be disappointed, as Nintendo has removed each and every video of the project.
Sad though that may be, don’t get too discouraged—the project is still around. Tomoya hosted a recent livestream to announce what had happened to his videos, and while the upload of that stream to his YouTube page failed to include the audio (leaving an almost 12-hour silent video), his message was passed on via his channel’s new description, as well as some YouTube commenters.
“MOVING TO TWITCH! Nintendo took down our videos. Project is still ongoing :)” — Tomoya Hamasaki
“The important message is that the project has been put on hiatus, and that it will be continued within the next year. During this year, Tomoya and the team will work on their own game. This is all due to Nintendo catching on to the project, and taking down their videos showcasing progress. Also, if you go to the main page of the project, the progress that’s already been made on it has been available for download.” — FubyHD
So, the fan project is still in development, but we shouldn’t expect to get any new releases of it for a while, though it sounds like they’ll be streaming it on Twitch on a regular basis. After a year has passed, hopefully the excitement of the official HD Twilight Princess will have died down, allowing this team’s updated product to quietly reappear on the web for all to enjoy once more.
