Nintendo Has Ceased Production of the New Nintendo 3DS in Japan and Europe

0

With the upcoming release of the New Nintendo 2DS XL and the market cannibalism induced by the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo has now announced that they are no longer going to produce the original 3DS or the regular, non-XL New Nintendo 3DS in either Europe and Japan. This leaves the New 3DS XL, the 2DS, and the New 2DS XL as the only current 3DS handhelds in production in those regions.

What does that mean for North American fans that don’t yet have a 3DS or 2DS? Nintendo is stating that this won’t affect the North American production of the glasses-free 3D consoles, but it seems like it’s only a matter of time before we see the regular 3DS disappear entirely.

What do you think of this move? Does it makes sense to not clutter the market with multiple versions of one console, or were you a fan of these older systems? Hit the comments to pay your respects.
