It seems like 2018 just began, but we’re already counting down the days until E3. Gaming’s biggest showcase is sure to be packed with exciting announcements and events, and Nintendo has already revealed some of their plans. During the week of E3, they’ll be holding the World Championships for Splatoon 2, as well as a Super Smash Bros. Invitational on Nintendo Switch.
However, that’s apparently just the tip of the iceberg. Bill Trinen, Nintendo of America’s Senior Product Marketing Manager, recently sat down with Polygon to discuss the upcoming tournaments. Trinen wasn’t able to reveal any more details about the upcoming Super Smash Bros. title for Nintendo Switch, but he did tease that the two tournaments are just the first of “many” E3 announcements that Nintendo intends to share in the near future. According to Trinen, we can expect more news to drop within about a month’s time.
Nintendo hasn’t held a traditional press conference at E3 for several years now, choosing to upload a Nintendo Direct presentation each year instead. They’ve also experimented with their show floor set up in recent years, including the choice to bring just one game (The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild) to E3 in 2016. What do you hope to see from Nintendo this year?
