In an interview with Japan’s Asahi Shimbun newspaper, Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima discussed the company’s interest in creating mobile games that interact with games native to Nintendo’s hardware line. “We aim to have our smartphone games work in synergy with our traditional hardware,” said Kimishima, “so we’d like to make something like that a reality. I feel that we at Nintendo are well-suited for that sort of thing.” When asked whether it was the 3DS hardware that Nintendo had in mind, Kimishima replied, “Considering the sales numbers for the platform, I don’t think you would be wrong to imagine as much.”

While the concept of companion apps for games on home consoles has been explored plenty of times by other video game publishers, Nintendo’s idea of attaching a mobile game and a traditional handheld game may seem like a bizarre proposition. A few of my all-time favourite video games include The Legend of Zeldas: Twilight Princess and Majora's Mask, Mass Effect 2, Rayman 2, and most importantly, Xenoblade. If I ever catch you making a "really feeling it" joke in our comments, you can bet your ass I'll hide it, you casual scum. Feel free to send me a private message if you have something you'd like to discuss... or if you just want to say hi!
