It seems that Nintendo is going to be taking to the smartphone platform with their token Xbox-Live Avatar-esque Miis. We can only assume that the app will deal with the management of the characters, and may provide some form of mini game, in the air of the StreetPass Plaza on 3DS. This is probably being done similarly to the way the Xbox-Live app is handled on Windows Phones, where you can manage your gamertag and Xbox-Live Avatar.

What we know so far is that it was going to be released this year, but ended up getting pushed to 2015 because they’re going to be expanding on the entire idea of the mobile app. What’s more is that they want the app to be released in a fully functioning and competent form without needing extensive updates, as well as being sound in terms of creative ideas.

As a side note, Satoru Iwata thought it was embarrassing that the Japanese website didn’t have a mobile version from the start, although this will be done by the end of the year

That being said, all we can really do right now is hope that the app is actually good when it gets released. Do you think Nintendo should be making a smartphone app at all, or should they keep strictly to console-based development? Let us know in the comments below!
