Nintendo Directs are a lot like Christmas. You never know what you’re gonna get, and it’s typically a big surprise. This time around though, there’s a chance Nintendo didn’t wrap their gifts well enough, and we might have gotten an early peek at what’s inside. Earlier today, Nintendo set up the video for the Nintendo Direct in Japan, and it held tags for several of their games that just might make their longtime fans cry tears of joy.
Nintendo of Japan tagged this new video with what could very well be games that we might see in tonight’s Nintendo Direct: “F-Zero,” “Mother,” and “Smash Bros.” One fan was lucky enough to capture a few screenshots of the tags, and it’s sure to be causing some pandemonium.
It’s been long rumored that Super Smash Bros for Wii U/3DS would have a port for the Nintendo Switch a la Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, though this could just as well be something else entirely. A new game specifically for Switch, perhaps?
As for F-Zero and Mother, these days these franchises and only known to newer gamers for their involvement in the Super Smash Bros franchise. It’s been thirteen years since the last installment of F-Zero was released, and fan demand for a new game in the series is at an all time high. Mother, on the other hand, has seen more attention with the re-release of EarthBound Beginnings, a port of the first Mother game for the Famicom, back in 2015 on the Wii U. It even made our Editor in Chief cry. All we need to complete the entire set now is for a re-release of Mother 3, the final game in the trilogy—preferably one with a western release as well, of course.
What do you think of these games getting a new life on the Nintendo Switch? Do you think that these screenshots are for real? Or are we all getting our hopes up too much right now? Hit the comments below to give us your thoughts!
