Ah, the pre-order. The infamous (recent) gaming custom of giving a company money before the product is available, and sometimes before we’ve even seen a trailer or an official name. We’re used to pre-orders for games, consoles, DLC, and more at this point, but Nintendo has just pushed the envelope a little further. As of today, European fans can place a pre-order…for Nintendo Switch’s upcoming online membership program.

That’s right, you can pre-order something that doesn’t release in any kind of physical form, can’t run out, and doesn’t come with any kind of bonus. Why? No idea, but it’s possible! Amazon UK and Amazon Germany have both opened up pre-orders officially through Nintendo. The service is available for pre-order in both three month and one year increments.

Nintendo Switch Online is set to roll out this September. For a single account membership, one month is $3.99, three months is $7.99, and a full year is $19.99. Nintendo Account owners can also pay for a Family Membership, which allows up to eight accounts to share the benefits of membership in one bundle. The only price currently listed for family accounts is one year at $34.99.
